A TAUNTON nursing home has improved its Care Quality Commission (CQC) overall rating to ‘good’ following its latest inspection under a new manager.

Hamilton Park Nursing Home was handed the second-highest rating by inspectors from the CQC last week after an unannounced visit in May.

Its inspection report rates it as ‘good’ across the CQC's five categories that ask if services are safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.

Hamilton Park was told it ‘required improvement’ in December following its previous inspection in October.

The nursing home, which has 34 beds and cares for elderly residents, has been managed by Sarah Patten since January.

She said: “From my first day, I could see the team's potential and I felt that they shared the same vision as me to provide quality person-centred care to the residents living at Hamilton Park, allowing them to live their lives the way they wish to do so in a safe environment.

“We are extremely proud of our ‘good’ rating in all areas. Well done to all of my staff.

“I was so overwhelmed at the positive comments about our service left by professionals, residents and their families shared in the CQC’s report.

“I have always had a passion for care and my team shares the same passion. It is rewarding enough to see the difference we make to our residents’ lives but to be recognised by CQC is fantastic. We now look at taking this service to the next level.

Hamilton Park's latest inspection report praises Sarah for providing “strong leadership and direction for the staff team”.

It adds: “People using the service and their relatives were satisfied with the care and support they received from staff.

“People said they felt safe at the service and staff treated them with care and kindness. Staff were attentive, thoughtful and caring. We observed positive interactions between people and the staff team.”

It also recognises that staff encourage residents to live independently and take part in activities.

The report finds that the home and its provider, Sentimental Care Ltd, completed an action plan issued after its previous inspection and says: “The overall rating for the service has changed from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘good’ based on the findings of this inspection.”

A total of 15 people were living at Hamilton Park at the time of the inspection.

The nursing home is located on Hamilton Road near Hamilton Gault Park.
